The party spent the next couple days traveling back to the town of Short Beginnings. The last watch on the first night fell asleep on watch, so they ended up sleeping in two hours longer than they wanted and we put behind schedule. Since there would not be able to make it to the town by nightfall, they chose to set up camp. Careful not ensure that they didn’t fall asleep during the night again, they were able to keep the fire lit and avoid any unwanted visitors.

Upon arriving at Short Beginnings, they discovered that the whole settlement was in a state of unrest. A highly-anticipated shipment of supplies had failed to arrive. Without the resources to send an expedition to investigate, many had begun to wonder if they would be able to remain there or would need to travel to a less remote settlement.

However, seeing an opportunity to put their skills to use and get a payday, the party volunteered to travel down the Dynisin River and discover what had happened, ideally recovering as many supplies as they could and bring them Short Beginnings. This was especially beneficial to the party as they couldn’t even cash in their bounty for clearing the Fishing Pit nor could Ryna complete her project for Kagbar since the resources she needed to finish it had been on the missing shipment.

AOR 542-5-98 to 6-00

The part spent the next few days traveling down the Dynisin River, traveling along its shores and looking for signs of the missing shipment. On the night of the new month, they were attacked by a group of Leaplashers that proved a formidable enemy, but ultimately fell to the party.

The next day, the party found an place on the shore where it looked like a vessel had been dragged from the river. Following it, they discovered a medium riverboat hidden in the treeline. They also spotted multiple sets of footprints heading west. Whoever had hidden the boat had taken great care to try and hide their they tracks, but the party had spent enough time in the wilderness to know what to look for and followed the trail for several hours.

Towards evening, they spotted movement on a nearby hill. Investigating the spot, they concluded that this must have been a lookout, meaning they were near the base of operations for whoever had stolen the shipment. After another half hour of careful travel, they found a small wooden fort with multiple bandits standing atop its walls. After a brief exchanged of warnings and insults, the party managed to convince the bandits to let them enter, counting on the bandits thinking they would be easy prey.

As expected, no sooner had they entered the camp when the gates were shut behind them and a dozen more bandits revealed themselves. The party knew that they were walking into a trap, but had underestimated how many bandits there were.
