Fully recovered and ready to take on the Shell-Snapper, the party partially descended the narrow carven staircase into the fishing hole. Jonesy pushed ahead with one of his followers to drop the meat they had taken from the Bird-Bear and dropped it on the beach. This drew the attention of the Shell-Snapper, but it remained in the water. Ione and Jonesy used their combined powers of Inception and Illusion Magic to make the meat look more appealing and to stoke it’s hunger. This increased it’s interest, but it was still wary. In a final effort to get it out of the water, Kabar stepped onto the beach and Ione created an illusion that would make the Shell-Snapper see Kabar as another Shell-Snapper. With it’s territory now threatened, the Shell-Snapper charged onto the beach and attacked. The combined efforts of the party, especially Jonsey’s Inception Magic to instill lethargy and sleepiness into the beast, allowed them to subdue it with minimal injuries. However, their struggle was far from over.

After dressing the Shell-Snapper to convert to rations and salvage parts of its shell for armor and weapons, they settle down for the night. However, everyone struggle to stay awake during their respective watches (I have never seen so many 1s rolled in a single session before). As a result, there were too separate attacks throughout the night. The first was a pair Rip-Rollers that snapped their long, tooth-filled jaws onto Ione’s torso and Kabar’s leg. Ione was able to use Illusion Magic to make the Rip-Roller that she had burst into flame. Kabar, on the Other hand, get tossed around a good deal and began bleeding out. Finally, the rest of the party shook off their sleepiness and came to the rescue. They quickly treated Kabar’s wounds and stopped the bleeding, but it would still be a while before he would fully recover.

After one of the Rip-Rollers was killed and the second had fled, the party set and new watch and drifted off to sleep. However, the two on watch also drifted off to sleep shortly afterwards. Boris, Ione, and Jonesie woke up to massive claws gripping their limbs as two Shell-Snippers (different from Shell-Snappers) thought they had found some easy food. Due to their many accumulated injuries, both Ione and Jonesie started bleeding out. Before they could succumb to their wounds, the rest of the party woke up, dispatched the Shell-Snippers, and tended to the wounds of Ione Jonesie, both of which had fallen unconscious from their injuries.

Not wanting to repeat their past mistakes, the party moved their two unconscious companions up to a ledge halfway up the steps out of the fishing hole and tied them in place. The final watch of the night managed to not fall asleep, but with so many interruptions and half the party on the brink of death, no one gained any benefit of their rest when morning came.

AOR 542-5-89 to 95

The party moved out of the fishing hole and found a nearby cave they could hold up in. They spent the next five days resting and recovering in preparation for their trip back to Short Beginnings, hoping the bounty for clearing the fishing hole would be enough to make the venture worth it.
